In need of some sporting action in the UK this summer? We’ve got you. The BBC is broadcasting all of this year’s Commonwealth Games, for free! Over eleven days across July and August, more than five thousand athletes are taking over to represent 72 nations and territories as they get ready to compete in 19 of the most beloved sports with 280 medals up for grabs.

This year, the Commonwealth Games will be held in the UK, in Birmingham, with the opening ceremony beginning at the city’s Alexander Stadium. There are expected to be 30,000 people in attendance, with millions more able to tune in on TV. Along with all the classic sports you know and love, making their Games 2022 debut is the Women’s T20 cricket, 3x3 Basketball and 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball. Plus, this year’s event will feature the largest ever number of events for women and Para-sport athletes in the history of the Commonwealth Games!

Starting on Friday 29th July, this years Commonwealth Games will air everyday across BBC channels until the final on Monday 8th August, so be sure to check in each day so you’re up-to-speed with the competition. For ease, we’ve got the full schedule listed below, but do bear in mind that these times are subject to change, as is the nature of live sport. Day 0: The Opening Ceremony

Thursday 28th July, 7pm, BBC One

Held in Birmingham, the Commonwealth Games 2022 opening ceremony has been put together by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Because the Games are being held in Birmingham, there will be a Birmingham theme song with the backing track supplied by UB40 45 years after the group formed. Local rappers Gilly G and Dapz On The Map will provide vocals for the track titled Champion.
